Campaign Regulations PORT.MAN.HISTORY.

The campaign is dedicated to the 815th anniversary of the Freeport of Riga. It is organised by the organization “Rīgas brīvostas padome” (Council of Riga Free Port).

The campaign takes in the territory of the Freeport of Riga and the water area of the Daugava up to the Railway Bridge. The map of the area of the photo campaign is available here.

The photo campaign has two stages, both; in terms of substance, and theme.

The first stage PORT.HISTORY runs from 7-21 September 2015.

The second stage PORT.MAN runs from 21-27 September 2015.

The campaign aims to create a documentary photo archive by reflecting the port’s everyday life, rhythm of work, historic development and achievements.

The main emphasis of the campaign is the people working at the port, from dockers to train-drivers, pilots to captains. People are the greatest wealth and value of the port. Due to their work, the Freeport of Riga has become the leading port in the entire region of northern Europe.

As a result of the campaign, a travelling photo exhibition will be created, as well as a documentary film, photo album and a book with the most popular photos taken during the campaign as well historical photos.

PORT.HISTORY

From the 7th to 21st of September 2015, everyone is welcome to enter previously taken photos into the competition reflecting the history, development, and life of the Freeport of Riga.

The following competition categories are announced:

  1. The oldest photo taken of the Freeport of Riga (can upload photos till 28th of September);
  2. The surprising port;
  3. A photo story about the Freeport of Riga and its people.

A description must be provided for each photo:

  1. author;
  2. category to which the author is submitting a photo;
  3. year, date and advisably time of admission;
  4. precise description of the place where it has been taken. It is advisable to mark the location of where the photo was taken by using the interactive map;
  5. if people are depicted – a request to indicate their names, professions;
  6. additional information related to taking of the photo and its historical value.

Rules of the competition and technical requirements:

  • a participant of the competition confirms his/her copyright to the photos submitted for the competition by uploading photos for participation in the competition;
  • the photos shall be submitted in digital form by uploading a photo to the home page of the campaign www.ostacilveksvesture.lv in maximum quality and in JPEG format;
  • the longer edge of the photo may not be shorter than 3500 pixels;
  • analogue, as well as digital photos, may be submitted on external data carriers in the photo campaign office at 4a Andrejostas Street (Imagine studio) from 7 September 2015 on every work day from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.;

The photos will be evaluated by a jury. The winners of the competition will be announced by 19th October 2015. The first place winner in each category will receive EUR 1000, while the second and third place will win new Apple iPad tablets or series iPhone 6 mobile phones.

PORT.MAN

Everyone who wishes to participate in the photo campaign is welcome to take photos of the port, activities of the people working there, people, landscape, etc. at that time.

Those who wish to take photos at the port where special permits are necessary for admission, the possibility of entering the Freeport of Riga from 21 to 27 September 2015 will be provided by previous agreement with organisers of the campaign and applying electronically by 6:00 p.m. of 18 September of this year. Organisers of the campaign will inform the individuals about the time when it will be possible to photograph in the port area.

The following categories of the competition are announced:

  1. Portrait. Person.
  2. Photo story
  3. Port landscape

The following shall be indicated for each photo:

  1. author;
  2. category to which the author is submitting a photo;
  3. precise time and precise description of the location of the photo. It is advisable to mark the place of taking the photo by using the interactive campaign map;
  4. names of the people seen in the photo;
  5. technical parameters of the photo.

Rules of the competition and technical requirements:

  • each author may submit an unlimited number of photos. It should be taken into account that the maximum number of photos in one photo story is 10 (ten);
  • the minimum size of the longer edge of the digital photo 3500 pixels, resolution 300dpi.;
  • the documentary photos may not be manipulated, namely, their content may not be changed, nor details deleted or added;
  • analogue photo materials may also be used for the creation of photos (films, photoplates);
  • photos shall be submitted in digital form by uploading them to the home page of the campaign www.ostacilveksvesture.lv in maximum quality;
  • the analogue, as well as digital photos, may be submitted on external data carriers to the photo campaign office at 4a Andrejostas Street (Imagine studio) by 27 September of this year by 11:59 p.m.;
  • The submitted photos shall participate in the competition by the authors’ choice.

The photos will be evaluated by a jury. The winners of the competition will be announced by 19th October 2015. The first place winner in each category will receive EUR 1000, while the second and third place will win new Apple iPad tablets or series iPhone 6 mobile phones.

Furthermore, the most popular photo of the campaign will be selected. That will take place by a vote on the campaign home page by using the vote campaign in the portal www.ostacilveksvesture.lv. Voting for the photos submitted to the competition will take place from 28 September to 11 October 2015. It is possible to vote from one IP address for five times within twenty-four hours. It is possible to vote for 3 photos in each category per one vote. The author of the most popular photo will receive a special award from the organizers.
